Calendar of Events and Conventions in Panama
You’ve been in Panama for a while now. You love the Panamanian weather and you enjoy your new country, but you are a little bored. You’ve spent some much time settling into your new life that you haven’t been living. Truth is you don’t know if there’s anything to do in Panama. What? If you don’t know that there are an amazing number of things to do in Panama, you couldn’t possibly be enjoying the weather in Panama because you’ve had your head in the sand!
Panama is an amazing country with many things to do and see: the Panama Canal, the Free Trade Zone, historic Panama City, the Chiriquí highlands, Bocas del Toro and the San Blas Islands. The Panama weather is perfect for all of the nature adventures, surfing, fishing, white-water rafting, and more shopping than you can imagine. Those things only scratch the surface of what you can do in Panama. Panamanians are proud of their country and all it has to offer. But if you want to see Panamanians enjoying life the most, you need to attend their events! So if you want to really enjoy the weather in Panama, here’s a partial calendar of events; get out there and enjoy:
1 – 10 The Boquete Fair of Flowers and Coffee. (Chiriquí highlands) The moderate side of Panama’s weather can be found in the Chiriquí Highlands, the home of this internationally famous competitive coffee tasting and flower exposition.
Various days – La Feria de la Chorrea (in the province of Panamá) Panama is known for its traditional dance and beautiful folklore. This dance and the beautiful ceremonial dresses are on display from late January to early February for 10 days.
Check dates – Enjoy the Panamanian weather at Chitre’s carnival festivities.
March 1-10 – La Feria de San Jose de David International Agricultural Fair is held in Concepcíon.
Various days – Carnival (The date for this event varies; it is the four days preceding Ash Wednesday) This event takes place throughout the country, as well as throughout Latin American. There is no worry about the weather in Panama during this event. This is four days of unrestrained fun and celebration! Panama’s Carnival is considered the second largest in the world.
Late April – La Feria de Azuero (held in Villa de Los Santos in the province of Los Santos) This fair is replete with traditional dance, agricultural attractions and musical performances.
May 1 – Palo de Mayo. Maypole dancing is performed by young girls in Bocas town and Bastimentos near Bocas del Toro, and it is your chance to enjoy the Panama weather near the most famous beach in Panama
July 3 – Dia de la Virgen del Carmen. The entire town makes a pilgrimage to La Gruta, the cave in the middle of the island, for a mass honoring the Virgen del Carmen.
Various dates – The Orchid Exposition. Enjoy the Panamanian weather at this event which is held in Sante Fe, a city located in the province of Veraguas.
September 28 – La Feria Del Mar. The "Fair of the sea" is a four-day festival held on Playa El Ismito, north of Bocas town.
December 16 – Fundacion de la Provincia de Bocas Del toro. Celebrating the founding of the province in 1904, this day is celebrated with parades and other events.
December 23 – Dia de Bastimentos. Bastimentos Day is celebrated with a parade and drums on the Isla Bastimentos. You will never find more perfect Christmastime weather than Panama has for this event!
Throughout the year
Amateur rodeos are a common occurrence. These happen in many of the small towns in Panama on a rotating schedule. There are many more events not listed. Searching the Internet or watching for notices will help you find more Panamanian events.
